Ricardo "El Pibe Sarandi" Maceiras" and Elina Roldan (Buenos Aires)

Ricardo "El Pibe Sarandi" Maceiras, was born in 1942 in the "barrio" (suburb) "Avellaneda" in Buenos Aires. He began dancing when he was 13 years old (young). In those years there were no tango schools or teachers, so as some of the masters of that era, his style is autodidactic, ie., self-taught. Ricardo has been having an affair with Tango for the past 55 years.

Ricardo began his professional career in 1964, at the age of 22, when he was invited by the great Argentine Tango masters, Gloria & Eduardo Arquimbau, to appear in the "Yo te canto Buenos Aires" (I sing for Buenos Aires) program on Argentinian TV alongside the great Carlos Gavito. Ricardo participated in the program 1968. He also took part in three movies entitled "Cancion desesperada", "El ultimo bandoneon" and as principal tango dancer in "Rosas, rojas rojas".

When Tango emerged, there were no teachers or dance schools; therefore, Ricardo developed his own style. Since 1995, Ricardo has been touring the world teaching that very own style of his, visiting Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and the USA in Atlanta, San Francisco and New York.

Elina Roldan, tango dancer and teacher, is one of the most recognized and respected dancers in the world of tango. She is one of the most favorites of the dancers (both, the old and the new argentine tango generations). Elina is especially well-known for her inimitable milonga with traspie. Elina participated in the 2009 Chicago Mini Tango Festival.

She dictates classes in Argentina and in different countries such as Uruguay, Chile, England, USA, Holland, Switzerland, Slovenia, Spain, Brazil, Japan, Canada, Germany, France, Sweden, Italy, and Austria. Furthermore, she has also taken part in innumerable shows and exhibitions with different tango dancers throughout her career. Her professional formation includes various aspects like: Classic Spanish dance. Theater - caress, Fencing, classic Dance, Flamenco, modern Dance – Graham

Among the many teachers who have influenced in her formation, we can mention: Pepito Avellaneda, Puppy Castello, Tete y María, Ricardo Gretta, Gustavo Naveira, Graciela González, Tommy O'Connel.

Moreover, took part in fashion shows, photographic productions, television, cinema and theater, as well as, acted as jury of different Festivals and Tango Championships in Argentina.

Elina is intuitive like a very few ones. She accomplishes her sharp and fine remarks in concise words. However, who needs more? She has already said everything... the rest is personal work.

The couple

As a couple Elina Roldan and Ricardo Maceiras have worked extensively during 2004 and 2005 in Europe and the United States. They are some of the premiere Argentinean tango dancers in the world. They have decided to join again in partnership to teach and perform. They have given exhibitions throughout the world including in various milongas in Buenos Aires (Salon Canning, Porteño y Bailarin, Confiteria Ideal, La Nacional, among others). They have also taught and performed at Nora’s Tango Week in San Francisco , and at the Tango Festival Munich.
