CHICAGO MINI TANGO FESTIVAL

 April 14-17, 2011

Julian Althabe (Buenos Aires) and his artwork

The exhibition that will be presented at the Chicago Mini Tango Festival was conceived in the heat of the milongas of Buenos Aires, birthplace of the tango is now intangible heritage of humanity.

Julian Althabe, its author, is an artist with a long history in the Visual Arts and for over ten years has channeled his inspiration in the theme of tango. His works are the result of expressing the other art that he practiced with recurrent passion: dancing in the milongas.

These works have achieved the synthesis of movement and have a clear symbolic intention that what is present is the strong influence of the countryside that the tango has had since its origin. This is done by merging with black culture and Italian immigration mainly from the early eleventh century.

Julian Althabe is a painter who has worked throughout his life on the theme of the Argentine countryside and customs. He had lived for over 20 years in the countryside.

The exhibited works are painted in acrylic on canvas, sometimes using the wrong side in the more rustic side, and every line that expresses the motion for the synthesis. With a few basic strokes this tells us a lot, and it is the viewer who interprets the intentions he suggests. These works are an invitation to connect to the world that each one experiences of tango.

The passion for art, for the tango, and for the dance, her dancing, are the strong motivation that expresses this longing of our soul.
