CHICAGO MINI TANGO FESTIVAL
April 14-17, 2011
Jorge Andrés (Toronto)
Jorge Andrés was born in Buenos Aires, son of parents who experienced the golden age of tango first hand. Tango music surrounded George literally from the first day of his life. He was introduced to tango culture, learned tango lyrics and lunfardo expressions connected to tango at a very early age. His father, perhaps most influential in passing on his own passion for tango to Jorge, introduced him to recordings of singers like Gardel and Corsini, orchestras of Canaro, Fresedo, D'Arienzo and others, history and roots of tango and canyengue.
Jorge very quickly embraced the rich and vibrant phenomenon that is Argentine tango. His fervour for tango developed and grew even stronger through the years. Recently George took his passion for Argentine tango to a new level by becoming a Tango d.j. As such, he has d.j.ed at the milonga "La Sentimental", "Milonga San Telmo" and the Toronto Tango Festival. Currently he is playing music at "Paradiso" milonga on Friday nights once a month, bringing a part of his native land to Toronto tango dancers through throbbing rhythms of Argentine tango, milonga and vals."
