CHICAGO MINI TANGO FESTIVAL
April 8-11, 2010
Alberto Dassieu and Paulina Spinoso (Buenos Aires)
Alberto Dassieu, born in 1937, is an accomplished maestro of tango salon, incorporating elegance, subtlety and poetic cadence. He started dancing tango when he was fourteen years old. Since then, Alberto has been frequenting the best dance floors of Buenos Aires: Jockey Club, Sans Souci, Morocco, Atlanta, Viento Norte, Sunderland, Almagro, Canning and many others. He has shared those same dance floors with the best tangueros of the times, including Pepe Dafonte, the intrepid Virulazo, Copes and the legendary Miguel Angel Zotto.
Paulina Spinoso, an accomplished professor of philosophy as well as dancer and scholar of tango is Alberto's wife and dance partner. Besides Buenos Aires, they have taught and given exhibitions in Switzerland, Italy, Germany and the United States. Alberto and Paulina were finalists in the Metropolitan Championship of Tango Salon and last August participated in the opening for the Tango Festival in Buenos Aires. Paulina has published various academic works on tango, including stories and research monograms. Like his partner, Alberto has not limited himself to dancing and teaching on the dance floor. He has participated in a number of plays and films, including the National Geographic documentary A Good Dancer and Lover of Our Tango and the blockbuster Evita.
